NSTAR Electric & Gas 345 kV Transmission / Reliability Project
A major transmission reliability project involving the installation of 18 miles of new underground transmission lines (3 pipe type cables), new switchyard at origin (Stoughton, MA), expansion of two existing termination substations (Hyde Park and K Street), and Heat Exchangers at Hyde Park and Baker Street Stations.

ControlPoint’s involvement on the project is with the three major substations:

Project Name:
Substation No. 385. L Street Station - Boston, MA

Project Scope:
Major Reconfiguration 115 kV
Onsite engineering, inspections, and construction oversight. At this Station, the lines will be
connected to the existing 115 kV transmission station through two 550 MVA autotransformers.
Regulating 160 MVAR shunt reactors will be bifurcated with each autotransformer to compensate for charging current and prevent high system voltage. The existing 115kV transmission station #385 will be reconfigured to a two ring bus configuration. Responsibilities include over-site of excavation and sub grade prep, coordinate and review soil and concrete analysis, assure installation, testing and commissioning switchgear, transformers, breakers, disconnects and relay protection schemes to meet operating design criteria. Administration of installation contract, requests for information, and engineering change notices.

Project Name:
Substation No.496. Hyde Park, MA

Project Scope:
345 kV Substation Reconfiguration
A 345kV/115kV autotransformer will connect to the existing 115 kV line at Hype Park Station
#496 to the Baker Street Station. A new heat exchange will be installed at the Baker Street Station
to provide cooling for existing 115 kV underground transmission lines that connect to the Hyde Park Station. Project responsibilities include onsite engineering, inspections, and construction of excavation and sub grade prep, coordinate and review soil and concrete analysis, assure installation, testing and commissioning switchgear, transformers, breakers, disconnects and relay protection schemes meet operating design criteria.

Project Name:
New 345 kV Switching Station Project, Stoughton, MA

Project Scope:
Station Site Engineering, Design, Construction
Onsite engineering, inspections, and construction oversight. Work includes voltage drop calculations, cable sizing, clearance issues from 345kv corona to low voltage ground clearance and
spacing, design / retrofit systems for code, regulatory and specification compliance. Over-site of excavation and sub grade prep, coordinate and review soil and concrete analysis, assure installation, testing and commissioning of GIS switchgear, 550mva transformers, 160mva reactors, breakers, open-air disconnects and relay protection schemes meet operating design criteria. Administration of installation contract, requests for information, and engineering change notices.

Project Name:
Park Street Substation Distribution Project

Project Scope:
Engineering and Design
Engineering and design responsibilities for the update of distribution feeders associated with the
replacement of the Park Street substation in Gardner, MA. Provided complete installation design
package including the specification and selection all equipment and materials. Design was completed
GIS based design software system featuring self-documentation and equipment / materials inventory control.
